Reflections Results

For those of you that don't know, on the 16th Anna had her band concert. But that's not the important part. The important part of this post are the result from Refelctions. For those of you who don't know what reflections are, well, let me explain. There are five categories,(seven in Utah because in Utah they have Theater and 3-Dimensional Art) and you may enter in as many of them as you would like. The Categories include: Visual Arts, Literature, Photography, Dance/Choreography and Musical Composition. You are put in a group to be judged in, such as K-2 Grade kids in one 3-5 in another. Each category has a first place, second place, and third place in each category (with each divided into the grade groups). The first place entries move on to district and the first out of those move on, and so on. Anyways this year I entered in Visual Arts, Literature, Photography, Musical Composition, and 3-D Art. I got first in all, except for photography. In photography I got second place. It was a good year of Reflections for me! Paul entered in Visual Arts, 3-D Art, Photography, and Musical Composition. He won first in Visual Arts, unfortunately, nothing in 3-D, and 2nd in Photography and Musical Composition. James entered in Musical Composition and Visual Arts. He got second place in Musical Composition. If you would like to read my poem, here it is (and it's kind of crazy and funny!):

Wow!

Our lakes, streams, rivers, moats,

Things that float on them– canoes, floats, and boats.

This planet that can sustain so much life

This planet where we go through great joy and great strife.

The food that we both grow and make

The food that we can eat and bake.

Our Sun that gives us heat each day

Our Sun that lets us play today.

People that fight for our lives and freedom in every way

People who care about us and let us in our home stay.

This country with leaders of so many kinds

This country with leaders with different ideas in each of their minds.

Our family who cares about us all day and all night

Our family who will try to keep us choosing the right.

Computers that gives us such great knowledge

Computers where we can go to online-college.

Our homes that give us everyday shelter from rain and snow

Our homes where we can let our normal selves flow.

Our Solar System with all its might

Each planet having a different length of day and night.

Cameras, phones, iPods and more

All just sold at a local department store.

Brooms, mops, cloths, bags, and rags

They all help us get through our cleaning and other such drags.

Our freedom of religion, choices, and schools

Our choices to get an education or make ourselves fools.

All of these thing just make me think “HOW?”

And then my second thought comes to be “wow!”

tHe theme was "WOW". I was very fortunate this year to win. In Visual Arts, I drew things in nature with glue, then colored over them with chalk. In Literature, I obviously wrote the above poem. In Musical Composition, I composed a song on the piano-I can't really put that on right now (I don't have any knowledge of how to!) and in 3-D Art I made a model of our Solar System. And in Photography I took a picture of someone holding Ali's hands while she took a step. Here is what Paul entered for each category he entered in. In Visual Arts, he drew an amazing picture with a gem border that kept getting bigger until it reached one big gem in the center. In Photography, he took a picture of a bookcase. In 3-D Art, he made an incredible dragon that somehow didn't get the most votes from the judges. Paul's response was "Well, at least dragons still make me think WOW!" In Musical Composition, he also composed a song on the piano. Now I will tell you about what James entered. He entered a Visual Arts picture of Harry Potter flying on a broomstick. In Musical Composition, he wrote a song on the organ (well, performed it on the organ is what I should have said). That is what won second. I hope these results give you enough information to understand!
